What You Must Know About A Zihuatanejo Villa

Activities Comments Off

A Zihuatanejo villa rental will likely astound you. Zihuatanejo is in the Mexican state of Guerrero on the west coast. It’s tropical there, like Hawaii. The area was until the mid-70’s a peaceful fishing village with a beautiful semi-circle sand beach and the mountains rising behind it. The fishermen still come to the beach early in the morning to sell their catch, and if you ask for fish in the late evening, the restaurants likely will be sold out.

If you rent a villa, there are several items to consider: how big, what area? beach or hillside? How swanky? After settling those questions, there are more. What about the staff for the villa. You aren’t really going to a tropical village to do your own dishes, are you? Staff may be limited to a maid who comes once a day, to gardeners, houseboys, cooks, laundresses, maids, and even guard dogs. Air conditioning, cable TV, modern kitchens are all available and must be specified in writing ahead of time.

Zihuatanejo is a fish lover’s heaven. In every restaurant the fish was caught in the bay that day. There are a couple of places that import all their food from elsewhere, but that’s certainly not the norm. You can eat fish morning to night without ever going in a restaurant. Just walk around the little town area or along the beach, and everybody will try to sell you just cooked fish tacos that will spoil any place you eat back home. Non-fish Mexican cuisine is plentiful and delicious everywhere.

Activities in your villa will feature long naps in a hammock on the patio with the soft breezes and sounds of the birds. Should you ever tire of that, go into a relatively unspoiled town, sit on the little square, go to the cobblestone market like the natives, check out all the tourist stuff being offered to you. Zihuatanejo is not filled with little kid beggars as in many other cities in Mexico. People will offer you stuff on the streets and on the beaches, but will not follow you and try to pressure you.

Other activities include fishing, snorkeling, parasailing, beach volleyball (every night), golf, shopping. There are many tours out of the area to inland cities. One of these is Taxco, the center for Mexican silver.Taking the $. 50 bus ride from Zihuatanejo to Ixtapa is an eye-opening contrast. In the 70’s the Ixtapa area was taken over by the Mexican Tourist Development people and a brand new town for attracting tourists was built. If Zihuatanejo is a sleepy fishing village, Ixtapa is Miami Beach. It has high rise condos, upscale shops and malls, all brand new and crowded with people.

Every possible agency for villa rental can be seen online. The airport is on the promontory that separates the two towns, and transportation anywhere is always available. The taxis have posted rates and no meters so it’s not necessary to haggle with them.

A Zihuatanejo villa can change your life. You may want to remain there. The town’s main quality is calm, even though you can always find activities. Remember to take thongs and mosquito spray.
