Ideas On How To Spend Your Holiday Off At The Wonderful Coastal Maine
July 12, 2010 Activities Comments OffAre you planning a holiday away? If you are, consider going to beautiful coastal Maine. This area is gorgeous and has plenty of fun things to see and do like going to the beach, fishing, boating, and kayaking.
You will be amazed at how spectacular the sunsets are if you go aboard a sunset cruise. You can also watch whales and seals on a whale watching tour. Or you might go with some lobstermen and take a lobster trip – have you ever hauled in lobster pots? You can!
If you love nature you’ve come to the right area. There are miles of unspoiled natural habitat to hike and explore.
Some people prefer indoor pursuits. That’s easy in Maine. Go to one of the many antique stores that are found in this area. If antiques don’t excite you, check out a lighthouse, or an art gallery, or one of the many historic sites.
You can even take part in a festival. Each year there is a blueberry festival and a lobster festival as well. If you time your trip right, you may even get to go to a literary event. Spend a little time in the beautiful local parks as well.
Maine is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway. It has many historic bed and breakfast inns listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One amazing example is a 300-plus-year-old inn that has been continually owned and operated by the same family. If you’re looking for modern amenities, that’s easy to find of course. Many inns have options such as private baths, AC, television, or even a refrigerator in the room. Some even have their own private beach – with of course an excellent ocean view.
If you really want luxury, check into the extras offered. Some inns have supersized two person Jacuzzi tubs in the private bathrooms, or a heated pool, or complementary newspapers and stationery. You may be able to stay somewhere with free soda and bottled water. Most offer free breakfast, and some offer free tea or snack in the afternoon. Many have private phone lines in the rooms.
When you check around, bear in mind that rates depend on the season and may or may not include tax. Also, check for availability. Not all inns are open all year round. You can also check to see if there is a package special; some will offer a free lobster dinner or other incentive with a two night stay.
Be sure to check into all of the rules and regulations before you make your decision, also. Find out about child and pet accommodation if this will be relevant to you, ask about check in and check out times, house rules, reservation requirements, methods of payment accepted, and charge for cancellation. Better to know these things ahead of time and choose the right site, than to book a room that ends up being unusable or displeasing.
