Hours Of Fun With A Lego Activity Table

5:36 pm Activities

Children love Lego, in fact many children have loved them since they first became well known in the 1960s. It is both fun and educational. Now, the Lego Activity Table makes creating the toy structures easier and more fun.

There is no shortage of variety of these tables, they come in sizes to suit all ages and colors to suit all tastes. The tables serve to allow for the blocks to be played with in a more controlled space. The design is simple, a wooden or plastic surface with a tabletop made of Lego material to fit pieces securely on to it.

The pieces are brightly colored plastic blocks that fit together through a system of knobs and matching indentations. Being able to fit any two pieces together allows both children and adults to create a whole range of fantastic constructions. The surface is made up entirely of the knobs so that structures can be securely built up from the top of it. From this surface the sky is the limit, children, and adults, can build castles, railway lines and entire cities if they wish.

These tables are also a good solution to storing the blocks. The pieces are a great deal of fun to play with, but not so much fun to stand on. Most tables will have some kind of storage for the blocks just under the surface. The most common is a drawer, or even a few drawers, to store the blocks.

This brand has a long history and is one of the few toys that has managed to keep its popularity for decades. The company’s origin is Denmark in 1916 beginning in the carpentry shop of Ole Kirk Christiansen. He started off his carpentry career with furniture but switched to toys during the Great Depression.

In 1934 the name of the toy was born. Ole Kirk held a competition among his staff to come up with a good name for his toy company. The name was chosen from a contraction of a Danish phrase “leg godi” which means “play well”.

The company chugged along until the death of Ole Kirk. His son then took over the company and also oversaw the toy’s switch to plastics. From here the popularity grew exponentially. In 1968 not only were 18 million sets sold, but the first park was opened.

The Lego Activity Table makes a wonderful addition to the toy’s family. The toy is a welcome break from television and computer games. Thankfully, the blocks continue to be popular over 50 years later.

You will find details about the reasons why you should buy a Lego activity table for your child and a list of the features of Lego tables on our site, now.
