Youth Baseball Tournament: Remembrances That Last For Good

5:36 pm Activities

With pee wee leagues, usually all teams participate in the end-of-season youth baseball tournament. Teams in the same age group compete against each other for the title, as opposed to only the best teams. With all of these teams doing their best for the trophy, the atmosphere can get very exciting.

Tournaments work by having each team assigned to play against another one. The winner of that round goes on to the next round, to compete with another winner. For the final round, only the two teams that are undefeated in the initial rounds get to play for the championship.

With baseball tournaments, youth boys and girls learn firsthand what it is like to have to perform under pressure. They likely feel many emotions surrounding the final game (or any games leading up to it), including excitement and fear. These emotions can help children to learn life skills, but the pressure may be traumatic for some children. This is especially so for children who are not the best players. The tournament can thus have the potential to either be a great or terrible experience for children.

Those who have competed and placed in these tournaments generally look back on the games with fond memories. They might still proudly display their trophy, and may talk about different aspects of the game years later. The winning team is usually prouder, but the second place team may still be happy with the result, especially if they played an extremely tough team.

Of course, at a youth baseball tournament one can enjoy many of the exciting things enjoyed at regular baseball games. Hot dogs, nachos, candy, and soda can be enjoyed. The smell of freshly cut grass and dirt can bring old players nostalgia. And sound of the parents chatting or arguing is almost a constant.

Children can really feel that they are accomplishing something in a baseball tournament, which can give them self confidence. The championship games can help them learn how to deal with pressure, and if successful, how to perform under stress. However, some children may feel too much pressure, and may feel guilt if they do not perform perfectly.
