Safety

I’ve been running a self defense and child/ family safety web site for about a year now and there are many things about it that make sense to me.  But there are even more things about watching what people are interested in and what they want to buy that really are a mystery to me. One of the things that I’ve been watching carefully is how people seem to respond to child safety products and for the most part i have to tell you that they are not interested.

I don’t just mean they don’t buy- I mean they don’t look- which is particularly perplexing when you look at the fuss on any local newscast when outraged citizens learn that someone with a sexual offense record has moved into their neighborhood. So why is it that when people are ready to scream to the heights of city hall about the safety of their children is there such a dearth of traffic on a term like child safety alarm or child safety product.

And while I’m grousing on the subject, why is there such a paucity of products?  I mean, when you consider the variety of alarms on the market for adults, why so few options for kids?  I’ve been looking to add to my products for a long time and its hard to find something – although I did find a company that offered a few useful looking products, but I think it was run by idiots ( yup she wrote that!- My blog I’ll say what ever I want)  Can you believe that a business, supposedly devoted to child safety would not consider having their products sold on a site that sold anything besides child products?  Help me out here, clearly I’m missing something.

Child safety is not a childish issue.  It is not an occasional pastime and it would be nice if people actually took a real interest in it beyond finding a political or outraged neighbor drum to beat.  We need a better selection of products to help parents protect their kids.  The technology is there.  I can find the closest sushi restaurant with my GPS – why can’t I use it to find my kid?
